Blipply adds full cash payment support to its Merchant app

Stockholm: Blipply has released a major product update: the launch of cash payment support directly in its merchant app. With this release, Blipply becomes the first platform in Africa to offer fully unified checkout for informal merchants, combining digital payments and cash transactions into a single, seamless system. This functionality empowers informal merchants with a unified system to track all sales and build a credit-ready digital profile.

This update also addresses one of the most persistent barriers to digital transformation in the informal economy. Despite the rapid rise of mobile money, recent FinAccess data shows that up to 90% of daily transactions in the Kenyan informal sector are still cash-based. Many merchants use separate systems for cash, mobile money, and bank apps — if they track sales at all.

“Most micro-merchants rely on cash to survive, but lack tools to capture that income digitally. With this update, every sale, whether paid by QR code or by hand, now helps merchants grow their business and credit history.”

By supporting cash alongside KE-QR-based digital payments, the Blipply merchant app enables:

  • Unified sales tracking for all payment types
  • Real-time business insights, regardless of how customers pay
  • A verified digital footprint for credit scoring
  • Simpler, more consistent business management

This move supports Blipply’s white-label partners by delivering infrastructure that accelerates digital inclusion and financial access across underserved merchant segments.
